This is one of those recipes that I will make so many times in my life that people will come to expect biscuits when I show up somewhere. These biscuits will be served at every holiday gathering, all future dinner parties and every cabin trip until the end of my time. There are so many variations on this recipe that it works for every single occasions. Not joking.

While waiting for a jelly making lesson, I got adventurous and decided to try these biscuits on a whim. It was brave considering that my jelly-making teacher is also my IRL kitchen idol. When she asked for the recipe, I knew it was gold. Since that afternoon, the recipe has made an appearance at family bbqs, dozens of breakfast events, as a gift for my cousin when she had her second baby and for dessert at a bridal shower. It's so freaking good guys. 

While I am on my way to some kitchen skill, recipe creation is certainly not one of them yet. This recipe belongs to Alexandra Stafford and I found it here

I do have a tiny tip to add. Cut the butter into tiny cubes beforehand and keep in the freezer until ready to use. I find it helps with the flakiness. It also makes the recipe feel a little easier.

Buttermilk Biscuits:

*This recipe rests for one hour in the fridge.

Cut butter into tiny cubes and chill in freezer. 

Combine all dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Mix well. 

Once mixed, add in butter one small handful at a time while mixing with Kitchen Aid. Continue to mix until butter is pea-sized.

Slowly mix in the buttermilk. Mix until dough forms, but do not mix until smooth. Dough should be falling apart a bit.

Roll the dough out into a rectangle. Fold the dough hamburger style, in half. Turn and fold again. Fold four times in total. 

From there, roll the dough out into another rectangle. 

Cut the dough into eight equal parts and move to a baking dish. 

Store dough in the fridge for one hour on the baking dish.

Garnish with melted butter and salt and bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes!


3 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1  tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
12 tablespoons butter, cubed & chilled
1 1/4 cup buttermilk
